The Democracy Tech Hackathons
Innovating Tech Solutions for Democracy
The Democracy Tech Hackathons are an ever-expanding and integral activity for our fellowship. In cooperation with local partners, we arrange hackathons as a chance for innovative democracy defenders to develop tech solutions for democracy. We conduct our hackathons in the frontline democracies from which we recruit our fellows. All winners of the hackathons are offered admission into The Democracy Tech Entrepreneur Fellowship.

What are the Democracy Tech Hackathons?
Our hackathons are social coding events that bring innovative, bright minds and democracy defenders together to improve upon or develop new technology to strengthen democracy. For our hackathon events, you can either sign up as a team or alone. Then, we will help you form a team. We encourage all walks of life to participate in our hackathons, whether you are an experienced programmer or a curious soul. When it is for democracy, anyone can contribute!

Launch Event and Pitching Competition in Ukraine
This year, we put our feet on the ground in Ukraine for the first time since Russia's invasion. We launched the 2024 cycle of the fellowship in Kyiv by conducting a pitching competition for a grand prize of $1,500 and admission to our fellowship to the best democracy tech solution presented. Although it was not a hackathon, we are committed to continue and expand our work in Ukraine and work to further integrate Ukraine into our hackathon activities in the next fellowship cycle.
When? We conduct our Hackathon over the fall season to lead up to our fellowship which starts in January.
Where? Until now, we have conducted our hackathons in frontline democracies from which we recruit our fellows, specifically Moldova and Georgia. In Georgia, we welcome participants from Armenia as well. This is not static and we always scout for new opportunities and potential partners to expand our activities. Please follow us on social media to get the latest updates for our hackathons and other fellowship activities.
How? We post our call for applications on social media. Follow our social media for the latest updates.
